Donna Smith, RN Is Our First DAISY Award Winner

Congratulations to Donna Smith, RN with our Advanced Wound Center.

Donna is our DAISY award winner for fourth quarter, 2017 and is the first HCH RN recognized with this prestigious award. Nominated by the heartfelt letter written by Nancy Smith in thanks for the compassionate care Donna gives everyday.

“She’s pretty special,” said Nancy. “I was hoping for an occasion to thank Donna. She really is exceptional.”

Surrounded by her Advanced Wound Center co-workers, committee members and administrative staff at Henry Community Health, Donna was surprised with the award.

“I care about my patients as if they are family,” Donna said, “And many of them feel like family here. I just was not expecting this.”

Donna and all the other nurses nominated throughout the fourth quarter of 2017 were honored at a reception in the afternoon when all the nominating letters were displayed.

Advanced Wound Center Director Sarah Brumley said, “Donna’s personal commitment to excellent patient care is evident in putting the patient’s needs first and treating them as family. The care and compassion she shows towards our patients inspires the entire team. We are so proud to have Donna at the Advanced Wound Center.”

The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way. Please say thank you by sharing your story of how a nurse made a difference you will never forget!
