A Sleep Study Can Help Detect Sleep Problems

A sleep study is an all night test that detects sleep problem. It is also known as a Polysomnogram, Polysomnograph, or PSG. It helps examine a person’s sleeping behavior and evaluates these conditions:

Sleep Apnea – A condition that causes a person to stop breathing during sleep. The pauses in breathing wake the person so they do not experience deep sleep. Symptoms include daytime sleepiness, loud snoring, or frequent awakenings during the night.

Myoclonus – With this condition, spontaneous twitches, abnormal leg movement, or jerks in the limbs may interrupt sleep.

Insomnia – A condition in which a person may have difficulty falling to sleep or staying asleep.

Narcolepsy – A condition which causes a person to fall asleep suddenly at inappropriate times, such as while talking, eating, or driving.
