The Importance of Sports Physicals

Let’s face it. Everyone is busy. And, it can be easy to wait until the last minute to make sure your child receives their annual sports physical. We think summer will slow down, but it rarely does.

So, this year Henry County Sports Medicine will be marking their 20th year with their Student Sports Physicals program. It has had many changes over the years and that includes this year.

Physicals will be given every Friday in June from 8:30 am-1 pm in the offices of Henry County Center for Orthopedic Surgery & Sports Medicine located in Suite 240 of Forest Ridge Medical Pavilion across the street from the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

Cost will be $20 and each one receiving a physical will also receive one of the special 20thAnniversary T-shirts.

Be sure to have your form filled in and signed by your parent/guardian before you arrive. No appointment necessary for these Friday physicals. You may obtain a form at IHSAA.org. And, check out the flyer.

Annual physicals – sports and general – are important because they help to discover health problems that may interfere with either participation in sports or daily life. Providers will be able to consult with you on how to handle specific medical issues like asthma attacks or healing of broken bones.

The staff at Henry County Sports Medicine Performance Enhancement and Henry County Center for Orthopedic Surgery & Sports Medicine also have ideas and training tips on how to avoid injuries or further your participation in a specific sport. They also can identify risk factors that may be relevant to a specific sport and the body’s condition.
