A Breast Health Nurse Navigator manages many aspects of programs, developing and maintaining quality patient services and ensures patients have continuity of care. She intervenes from the time an abnormal mammogram is detected through diagnosis, treatment and follow-up as needed with a survivorship plan of care.
The Breast Health Navigator at Henry County Hospital is Tonya Wilson who has been a registered nurse for eight years. She monitors all women who are diagnosed with Bi-Rads 0, 3, 5 and 5 and provides them with education, information and support. When additional testing is warranted, Tonya is armed with information and also will schedule all needed appointments, tests and consults as well as keeping an open line of communication with her patient’s primary care physician.
She assists the radiologist with biopsies and calls her patients prior to and after their appointment. Tonya’s job also includes supporting the families of her patients as well as their physicians.
