BOTOX® is known by most as a solution for unwanted wrinkles, but it has far more applications that can truly make a difference in patients’ lives. It has become an excellent treatment option for both chronic migraines and spasticity. Its overall effects on muscles have made it an effective and innovative solution.

Treatment for Chronic Migraines

Chronic migraines can be completely debilitating. You can never predict exactly when they will strike, and they can completely derail your day. There are a few characteristics that separate chronic migraines from occasional migraines. Chronic migraines include:

  • Headaches lasting 4 hours a day or longer
  • Headaches that occur 15 days or more per month
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Sensitivity to light or sound
  • Seeing floating spots
  • Pain that focuses on one side of the head or behind one eye or another

The BOTOX injections will be given in the head/neck area into the shallow muscles in your skin. You can take control of your migraines with just 4 treatments a year, each lasting only 15 minutes.

Treatment for Spasticity

Spasticity is another difficult condition. It is essentially a condition where your muscles stiffen or tighten and resist being stretched. Common causes of spasticity include:

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Serious brain injury
  • Serious spinal cord injury
  • Stroke

BOTOX for spasticity is most effective when only a few muscle groups are involved. It can work well with other treatment options. Treatment happens every 3 months, and each session lasts about 30 to 45 minutes. Follow-up services may include physical or occupational therapy, and ongoing stretching and exercises will help to maximize your results.
