Standard charges

Standard charges are the hospital’s set prices for each service. You have a legal right to a list of standard charges. The list is called a chargemaster. A chargemaster may be helpful if you aren’t using insurance. If you are, the standard charge likely will not be the amount of your bill. An insurance company can negotiate a lower price than the standard charge, and your policy may cover all or a portion of the cost for you.

Henry Community Health is committed to price transparency to help you make informed decisions about your healthcare. We offer several resources to help you understand your medical costs and plan for medical expenses.

Good faith estimates

A good faith estimate is a breakdown of expected costs for a procedure or service, including fees, from a single provider or facility. For example, if you’re having surgery, you may need an estimate from the surgeon’s practice and surgical center or hospital. An estimate typically doesn’t include related care that is scheduled separately, such as physical therapy. You have a legal right to request a good-faith estimate from every provider or facility.

Protection against surprise medical bills

The federal No Surprises Act protects you from surprise billing. Surprise bills are unexpected, unauthorized medical charges for emergency care from a provider that’s not in your insurance network. Surprise bills also cover some non-emergency services at an in-network hospital or surgery center.

Did you receive multiple bills for one service? This can happen when HCH collaborates with another healthcare group to deliver your care. In these instances, the charges are itemized. You will receive a bill from HCH for our fees and separate bills from our partners for their charges.
