FAQs about maternity care
Every pregnancy is different, and high-risk pregnancies can vary in extremities. It will depend on your medical history. For most high-risk pregnancies, we can care for you up until 34 weeks.
Being a Baby-Friendly Hospital means that we provide a high level of care surrounding infant feeding and mother-baby bonding. HCH is one of 17 hospitals in Indiana with the Baby-Friendly accreditation. Learn more about this accreditation at https://www.babyfriendlyusa.org/
The first ultrasound is usually performed when you are 8 to 12 weeks pregnant. The 20-week ultrasound is particularly important as it serves as the anatomy scan, during which the ultrasound technician will check for any irregularities in the baby’s development. This is also the appointment where you can often learn the baby’s gender.
We have you meet all our providers so you are comfortable with each provider before delivery. This also helps each provider be informed on you and any conditions you may have before delivery.
Four is the maximum number of people, and there are no age restrictions.
For the safety of our patients, we currently do not allow you to deliver vaginally after a previous C-section.
If you call the OB/GYN office phone number (765-521-1217), you will be redirected to a triage nurse who will be able to answer your questions. If it is an emergency, call 911 or visit our emergency room.
Keep it simple and check labels. “There are very few foods we actually say to stay away from,” Dr. Carls explains. For instance, leftovers are usually safe when appropriately reheated, but there are risks associated with consuming unpasteurized soft cheeses and certain types of fish.
