Types of mammograms
Early detection is your best protection. That’s why at Henry Community Health we offer only the best technology for your breast exams. All of our patients receive digital 3D mammograms which will provide a detailed look at each breast layer.
Screening mammogram
A screening mammogram is an x-ray exam that is used to check the breasts of individuals who have no signs or symptoms of disease. During the exam, your breasts will be compressed between two surfaces to spread out the tissue. This creates a sharper, clearer image while reducing your radiation dose. Usually two or more images are taken of each breast.
Diagnostic mammogram
A diagnostic mammogram is performed for a variety of reasons. This exam is used to evaluate abnormalities seen on a screening mammogram or a new problem identified by you or your physician. New problems may include a lump or mass, nipple retraction, unusual nipple discharge, dimpling or skin thickening. A radiologist will view your images while you are here and you will receive same day results.

FAQs about breast health
The easiest way to schedule your mammogram is to call 765-521-1415 or contact your physician for an order.
The entire procedure takes approximately 20 minutes but compression only lasts seconds for each breast.
Results will be mailed and will be available on our patient portal.
Preparing for your mammogram is very simple.
- Be sure to schedule your appointment for a time when your breasts are the least likely to be tender.
- Don’t wear deodorant or powder. These products can show up on your images causing inaccurate results. If you do, wipes will be available for you to remove it. After the exam, deodorant will be offered.
Some individuals experience discomfort during breast compression, but your technologist will work with you to make you as comfortable as possible.
